History of the 13 Star US Flag
This was the first official flag of the United States of America. While the Betsy Ross is usually thought of as the "first" American flag, that wasn't officially created until 1792 whereas this flag was the official replacement for the "Grand Union" Flag which replaced the british union jack of the time with a canon of blue and 13 white five pointed stars. This basic design template has been used continually since this time and is the basis for our present day American flag as well.
