History of the Mexican War Flag of 1815 (Hidalgo Revolt)
After the Hidalgo revolt, Generalisimo Don José María Morelos y Pavón took charge and continued the fight against the Spanish Army. In 1815, due to persecution, he relocated to Puruarán in the present-day state of Michoacán. There, Morelos summoned the Supreme Congress, which had been declared in Chilpancingo on November 6, 1813, and passed decrees on July 3 and 14, 1815, adopting three flags and a coat of arms.
These flags and coat of arms, although the first formally established ones, had a short-lived existence as Morelos was soon captured in Ecatepec, Mexico, in December of that same year. Despite their brief duration, these flags and coat of arms hold historical significance as early symbols of the Mexican independence movement led by Morelos during the turbulent times of the revolution.
